Damn Jeans

Yes, I'm still trying to lose my baby weight, and that means, literally (scale-wise) I have 8 more pounds to shed, figuratively (body wise) I don't know if I will ever entirely get back everything in it's proper place (does that ever happen??). People keep telling me that I will lose it when I stop breast feeding, but I don't know if I believe that because "people" also told me nursing would take off weight, and that the weight would be gone in 9 months (9 months up, 9 months back) but none of those have rung true for me, so I am not putting my eggs in the nursing basket either, I am really trying to work my butt off to , well, get my butt back.
Anyway, I went to Nordstrom the other day because I've always wanted to buy really cute, expensive jeans that fit me well. I always wear jeans that I inherit from people, friends or my Sister, Susan. Not that expensive jeans always fit you well, but designer jeans has been my weight loss inspiration since the beginning (actually when I was preggo I used to tell Adam that I was getting designer jeans as a push-present to myself --and then you know how we women are, your size is never small enough to justify spending $150 on demin fabric.)
Anyway, back to Nordstroms: I asked the girl to get me all the jeans she had in my size... and she brought me 4 pairs of jeans!! Seriously?!! And she said "Sorry, this is all we have in your size" Seriously, I wanted to deck her. I think her better angels were holding her tongue back from letting the words out "Maybe you should try a different department (like the plus size department)".
So as I left the store almost in tears and with no jeans, I came home to fill out an on-line weight loss program that I'll never do. As I was filling out the questionnaire, I got the munchies and ate TWO skinny cow ice cream bars! What the heck?? Am I trying to lose weight here or what? ugh. The whole weight loss thing is a joke. I am a horrible dieter and exercising with a baby seems near impossible (I can't imagine having more than one baby!). But I have made time to do it, but it comes at a price, I just don't have time to get my house as spic and span as I would like, or I don't have time to read a book I wanted to. In the end, hopefully my eight pounds will come off; and if they don't, it's totally worth it to have such a cute, healthy little angel.
But I have to admit, I think I was chomping down the ice cream in defiance of the Jeans sales girl, and the weight loss program and just all the pressure I feel to lose these last eight pounds that just don't want to budge. Sometimes we all need to rebel a little bit. There's one skinny cow left in the freezer...
p.s. I don't want to read any comments to this post about how your weight loss was easy and just "came right off"; I will only accept sympathetic comments, constructive suggestions, and/or a little poster of a kitty falling off the side of a bath tub saying "hold on!".

My baby is almost 20 months old and I've still got a gut, and a butt, and thighs, and this list could go on forever. The nursing thing didn't go either way for me. When I quit, I neither lost nor gained. It blows, so mostly I have lots of old clothes that I don't fit into, a few worn out things that I do fit into, but I did make a wise decision and gave all my damn jeans to my skinnier sisters.

My stomach still isn't even close to the way it was - I'm afraid it never will be. I've been obsessing about it since before my baby was born. I decided I'm just going to have my kids and then really work on it, because it is just going to keep happening...and then I can feel good about the cookies I ate tonight!

sorry, I can't find the picture of the kitty holding on. But I think you are one amazing, talented, hilarious woman! Sadly, i don't think our bodies ever go back to being the same post-baby.

i don't believe in scales. so i don't know how much i weighed before eli or how much i weigh now. i just claim the weight that i put on my driver's license when i was 16- how's that for denial?

Let's see... my youngest child is 2 1/2 years old. I still have 15lbs to lose. I ate cheese and crackers for lunch. I ate a brownie for a snack last night. I have a stack of damn jeans in my closet that unless i want to make people vomit I don't try to wear. Maybe I should just cut them up and make a quilt for picnics, where I will consume lots of things that will never allow me to fit into those damn jeans again. :)

Oh sister! Let me tell you how true everything you said was. It is the universal problem! I completely relate to everything you said! It just plain sucks! And it is SOOO hard to lose the weight and to keep to a work-out routine and to eat healthy. So hard!!!!!!! I have hated my body since I gave birth to my first child. I will go and have a bowl of ice-cream now!

My pre-baby jeans are starting to fray and rip along the side seams because they are holding in a lot more weight than they used to. And yet, I refuse to admit defeat and buy a bigger size. I am the embarassing mom with the large butt and roll lopping over the top of her jeans.

I have 10 lbs to lose and it's not coming off. I recently received a WW Points finder from a sister and am half-heartedly looking at the Points value of the snack crackers and chocolate chips that I eat. But, I'm more motivated now. Maybe I should take a trip to the mall (jeans dept.) to seal the deal.

Hi Diana--It's Becky (Turinetti) Wessel--funny how I found your blog--though a link from someone's blog that know Jenny Jacobs. Small world I guess. I think my sister showed me your blog over Thanksgiving last year too! I just thought I'd say hello and come out from hiding! Sorry about the jeans experience--those days really stink! There have been more than a few occassions where I have ended up sobbing in the dressing room because of baby weight! I'm facing that in a few months as it is! We are aiming for our third baby girl! She's due in late August/early September. I hear you're in law school? We just finished that era 2 years ago. Email me and we'll catch up! rwessel@peoplepc.com

Diana, I can tell you as an older Mom it really amazes me at those girls that carry a small basketball on their fronts and call themselves prego. I gained 60 lbs. with every one. I lost all of it after the 4th one, then my thyroid busticated. Life isn't fair in the weight department. I've pretty much decided I've become my worst nightmare and the thing I want the most I will spend my entire life struggling for. We all struggle with the human element. That being said I'm going to the freezer. I think there is a drumstick in there somewhere!

Preach'n to the choir!! Holy crap! Looking at all the pictures we took over the weekend, I'm huge! And I'm eating practically a whole pan of brownies myself. I justify it, because I'm nursing. It's so frustrating! I still don't fit in my regular shirts. It's been a month since I had my baby and I'm still in maternity clothes!! Argh!

I was catching up on your blog (I've been a blog slacker lately) and I am exactly where you are with the whole weight thing! I still fluctuate between 6-8 lbs that I can't break! On my good days I think in my head "6 lbs, that's really close"... yeah, but my body is so messed up so clothes just don't fit right. I have saggy boobs (sorry for the explicit description) and a raisin belly made up of lose flabby skin that I can grip onto with two hands. Ugh! I used to have a nice stomach, sure, no one ever saw it except my hubby, but I knew it was nice and it made me happy just knowing that. I already know it won't be the same... dang stretch marks!!!!

I thought nursing was going to drop the pounds for me too. I had a friend who said she lost all her baby weight and then some by 3 months. When I hit my 3 month mark I was pretty depressed when saw that I wasn't even close to my original weight, not the mention the "and then some". I guess some people are lucky.

I guess making 7 layer brownies and eating them all in two days doesn't help, but I can't help it! I keep thinking I'll magically lose my chocolate cravings... but I've had them my whole life, they ain't going nowhere! Oh well!

I think I'm going to have nightmares tonight about post child birth body. I haven't even had children yet, and I already have these issues. Am I in denial? yes. I am also slightly overly optimistic about diet and exercise.

I watched my nephew this weekend full time and have no clue how my sister finds the time.
